FARA Foundation – A Family for Those Without

Founded in 1991, the FARA Foundation’s mission is to transform the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people, and families living in impoverished communities across Romania. The name “FARA” draws attention to the many things these individuals live without—without family, without parental love, without resources or support, without equal access to education and opportunity, without hope, and without smiles.

FARA strives to be a family for those without. We are committed to raising resilient and responsible children and young people, building strong and functional families, and fostering engaged communities. Through our actions, we demonstrate love, service, and investment in those who need it most. We work to heal trauma, restore hope, and help individuals find the resources and strength to build a better future.

A Family for Life

We provide residential care, psycho-social support, non-formal education, and social integration in family-style protected homes located in Suceava County—Casa Sfânta Maria in Vadu Moldovei and Casa Elisabeta in Cacica—for 19–20 young adults with disabilities.

Educational Scholarships

Through the FARA Educational Scholarships, we invest in human potential by supporting students with a comprehensive package that includes financial aid, counseling and guidance, and personal development opportunities. Continued education and the acquisition of professional qualifications increase the chances of integration and long-term success.

THERAPY & REHABILITATION

We offer free therapy and rehabilitation services through three Day Centres—one in Popești-Leordeni (Ilfov County) and two in Suceava County (Suceava and Fălticeni). These centers support 240 children and young people with disabilities from families facing psychological and financial hardship. We also provide resources and guidance to parents to help them continue the therapeutic process at home.

FIGHTING POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION

We provide after-school educational support, non-formal education, psycho-social and material assistance, and social inclusion activities for disadvantaged and/or marginalized children and their families in the communities of Baia, Bogata, Basarabi, and Bahna Arini in Suceava County. The program supports 300 children and 450 family members.

A FAMILY FOR THOSE WITHOUT

We provide residential care, psycho-social support, non-formal education, and social integration in a family-style home—Casa Sfântul Nicolae in Suceava—for 15 children and young people from the child protection system who lack parental and family care.
