Leadership

FARA Foundation is established under Government Ordinance no. 26/2000 on Associations and Foundations, as amended by Law no. 276/2020. Its leadership structure consists of a President, a Board of Directors, and the Executive Leadership Team, in accordance with applicable legislation and the Foundation’s Statute.

The President and founder of the Foundation is Jane Nicholson, a British citizen. Since 1991, Jane has built an organization and a team of professionals, nurturing family values in the work of serving and supporting vulnerable children, young people, and families in impoverished communities across Romania.

To the FARA team, Jane is a role model, an example of altruism, determination, and perseverance in bringing joy to the lives of those less fortunate.

The team brings to life the founder’s vision, values, and love for people through programs inspired by the real-life stories of those in need.

Jane’s leadership model encourages creativity, humanity, professionalism, and spirituality in finding resources at both individual and community levels to fulfill the Foundation’s mission.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the governing and administrative authority, ensuring the fulfillment of the Foundation’s mission, purpose, and objectives. The Board consists of five (5) members appointed for a five-year term, except for the President, who is appointed for an unlimited term.

The Board meets at least once a year and whenever necessary. To facilitate timely meetings, remote communication tools are used (Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp, Teams).

Responsibilities:

  • Defines the Foundation’s strategy and program direction
  • Approves the annual financial statement and budget
  • Signs and amends legal documents on behalf of the Foundation
  • Oversee the execution of the budget
  • Approves the organizational chart, HR policy, and strategy
  • Approves the internal regulations

At the executive level, the Foundation promotes a “complementary leadership” approach.

This model involves sharing responsibilities for operational management, strategic development, and organizational sustainability between the Executive Director and the Associate Director. The complementary leadership team operates under the authority of the Board of Directors and the Foundation’s President.

Collaboration and Trust

The Executive Director primarily focuses on strategic direction, development, and strengthening of the Foundation, while also supporting operational decision-making. The Associate Director ensures the smooth running of the organization, daily operations, financial management, and program oversight, working closely with the Executive Director in strategic planning and decision-making.

The Executive Leadership Team is supported by program-level management teams across all FARA Foundation programs.

Unity

To ensure consistency in leadership and management practices across programs, the leadership vision is implemented by a team composed of Program Directors, Program Managers, administrative staff, and specialized personnel.
